Modern Boho Wedding in Pennsylvania

Real weddings are so inspiring! To get you in the mood to plan, we asked real brides to spill the details on everything from getting engaged and finding their wedding dresses to the special touches and surprising moments that made their celebrations completely one-of-a-kind. Are you a bride-to-be looking for some inspiration? Lexis, our associate buyer here at David’s Bridal, kept the Galina Signature bridesmaid dresses in mind when planning her modern boho wedding in Pennsylvania. Keep scrolling to see more details from Lexis and Michael’s special day.

Briefly tell us how you and your fiancé met! How did you know that he was the one?

My husband and I met in high school 11 years ago. He was a senior and I was a sophomore at the time. We had a mutual friend that introduced us in the hallway. We went on 1 date together and instantly connected, and we have been inseparable ever since. I always knew we would be together forever but once we made it through college and moved in together it was clear as day. I knew one day I would marry him.

Tell us your proposal story!

Every year we take a long weekend vacation to Ocean City, NJ. In August 2020, we took our annual trip and I thought nothing different of it. One night, my husband wanted to re-create a sunset picture we took on the main bridge a few years back. He brought his go pro and camera (still thought nothing of it), and once he had everything set up, he got down on 1 knee and proposed. I was in shock!!! I knew one day it would happen but he totally caught me off guard. When we walked down to the bottom of the bridge, he surprised me with having all our friends and family there to congratulate us and pop champagne.

Did you do a Bridesmaid proposal?

Yes! I made them all customized bridesmaid proposal boxes. Each box had their name on it. Inside I had a small bottle of prosecco, a small succulent from our venue Terrain, a candle, and perfume. I gave them all their boxes in person on a special day we all planned to hang out!

Tell us about your bachelorette party!

We ended up having a conjoined bachelor and bachelorette party since all our friends are friends with each other. It was honestly the best decision we ever made. My maid of honor and the best man planned out each day for us.

How did you decide on your bridesmaids’ dresses?

modern boho wedding in pennsylvania - bridesmaids

In the bridesmaid’s department, I was the associate buyer for our new brand Galina Signature. I wanted all my bridesmaids to be in this line because it was so near and dear to my heart. My senior buyer and I were dreaming of this day to coordinate the whole party together from the new successful line we launched together.

I wanted a modern boho themed wedding, so my color inspiration came from wanting colors to tie back to that theme. We had a new color launching, Sundial, that I wanted to include as well. I landed on different shades in a metallic palette, including Golden, Tawny, Sundial, and Cinnamon. My favorite details about my bridesmaids’ look were the overall sexy yet glam aesthetic, the high shine element of the luxurious charmeuse fabric, the delicate button details, and how universally flattering every style was on all my girls. When the bridal party’s dresses were picked I couldn’t wait to see them all in their dresses standing together. I knew they were all going to look gorgeous!

What made the morning of your wedding special?

Having all my girls and family by my side for support that morning. My maid of honor gifted me with a photo album of all the memorable events that took place from the engagement until now. It had our photos from my engagement, engagement party, bridal shower, and bachelorette weekend. She even left spots for us to add for our wedding and honeymoon.

Who was your maid of honor and how did she make the day special for you?

My maid of honor was my best friend since middle school. She is more of a sister than a best friend, she really went above and beyond for me during the whole wedding experience. She even did my hair the morning of. It came out way better than I expected. I got so many compliments. If it wasn’t for her, I truly don’t think I would have looked the way I always imagined on my wedding day.

I decided to differentiate her dress from the rest of the bridal party. It was a different fabric and silhouette, and a stretch crepe trumpet style dress. She was the only girl in a matte fabric.

Tell us about your wedding day!

modern boho wedding in pennsylvania - bridal party

I know it is cliché but it honestly was a DREAM. All the details came together so perfectly. It wouldn’t have been the perfect day without the help of all my amazing vendors, friends, and family. It was everything I ever imagined.

Was there a highlight or most memorable moment of the day with your bridesmaids?

modern boho bridesmaids

The first look with my bridesmaids when we were getting ready was the most memorable moment. After seeing their reactions to me, I knew my husband was going to be just as if not more excited when we went to do our first look. We did a huddle together a made a chant to start the day off.

Do you have any bridesmaid dress shopping tips for future brides?

modern boho bridesmaids

Let your maids pick the style that best fits them. It’s important that they feel and look their best. I had my maids go in store to try on dresses. I first let the girls select the styles they loved the most, then I asked them to pick the color they would want to wear from my palette.

What’s your best wedding planning advice?

Don’t stress over the small things and how they will come together. Follow your vision and everything will work out as planned and be even more perfect than what you envisioned. Soak up every moment on your wedding day because it goes by faster than you think it will. Take the time to have special moments with your new husband. Take a moment to take it all in and be happy of all you accomplished to get to this point. It’s a lot of hard work to plan a wedding! Being able to take a moment to appreciate all the details is very rewarding. P.S. It’s okay to take a breather and sit down and enjoy your meal and wedding cake!

Colorful Boho Wedding

Real weddings are so inspiring! To get you in the mood to plan, we asked real brides to spill the details on everything from getting engaged and finding their wedding dresses to the special touches and surprising moments that made their celebrations completely one-of-a-kind. Brightly colored florals, coordinating bridesmaid dresses, and bohemian touches have us saving this wedding to all our Pinterest boards! Keep reading to see more details about Katherine & Gabriel’s colorful boho wedding.

Briefly tell us how you and your fiancé met!

We met online on Plenty of Fish. I thought the app would be a waste of time, but it worked!

Tell us your proposal story!

Gabe proposed in the Dominican Republic while on vacation. We took a stroll on the beach at night, and he got down on one knee near the waves!

How did you both decide on your wedding day look?

I wanted a boho look for our day—nothing too traditional. We both love color, so after I got my dress and decided on the color scheme, Gabe got an emerald suit!

Do you have any shopping advice for future brides?

Go to a couple of shops and try on all types of styles. You never know what you’ll fall in love with. And, trust your gut!

What was your favorite detail about your look?

My flower crown and orange shoes!

How did you feel when you knew that you #foundtheone?

Overcome with emotion! Instant tears when I put a veil on and saw the completed look.

Was there a highlight or most memorable moment of the day?

Honestly, walking down the aisle and seeing him waiting there for me was the highlight of my day! As well as having a fluffy son be part of the bridal party. I also had a surprise father-daughter dance that began as a ballad and quickly changed into a salsa!

Did anything funny or unexpected happen?

I forgot a BUNCH of things that the next day I realized didn’t happen, or didn’t go as planned. But PLEASE don’t let these things ruin your thoughts of your big day! Almost nobody notices anyway, all my guests said they had a blast.

Is there something you wish you had known before the big day/while you were planning the wedding?

Hire professionals to ease the pain of planning! Also, a big guest list is overrated. We had around 50 guests and it was a great size. I didn’t feel like I was truly missing out by not having my original 120 guest wedding. My closest family and friends made it and it was great!

What flavor was your wedding cake?

We had 3 tiers. Lemon poppy seed, strawberry, and vanilla lavender!

What was your favorite DIY or personal touch?

My mother made the amazing macrame backdrop for our neon sign! I love it so much!

What’s your best wedding planning advice?

Decide ahead of time what is important to you, and what you could cut out. Don’t be pressured by family opinions or “what everyone else does at weddings”. If you don’t like it, get rid of it. Like the garter toss, or a super fancy rehearsal dinner. Do what YOU want!

Anything else you’d like to share?

I found creating a Pinterest board really helped. Especially when trying to convey your vision to your vendors, like your florist or rental company! I wanted more of a vibe than specific flowers, so having a visual representation of that helped me out. We live in NY and planned a wedding in OK basically over the phone and email. It was difficult, but it all came together perfectly!

Sexy Bohemian Wedding in South Carolina

Real weddings are so inspiring! To get you in the mood to plan, we asked real brides to spill the details on everything from getting engaged and finding their wedding dresses to the special touches and surprising moments that made their celebrations completely one-of-a-kind. Real bride Shannelle and her now-husband Andrew officially tied the knot at a stunning wedding in South Carolina. Their day was filled with sweet moments, sentimental touches, and lots of laughter. Read on for more details from their sexy bohemian wedding.

Briefly tell us how you and your fiancé met! How did you know that he was the one?

I relocated from New York to Charlotte for my job and met Andrew, through a co-worker, for a blind date. He picked me up from my apartment and was a complete gentleman! We enjoyed laughter and drinks at a bowling alley. I of course won (will he see this? lol)! Soon after a great friendship brewed, and we have been inseparable ever since. I knew he was the one when I met his family and they welcomed me with open arms. As the saying goes “When you marry your spouse, you marry his family as well.”

Tell us your proposal story!

It was Christmas eve at around 7 in the morning when he decided to pop the question. I was literally half asleep, morning breath, with no idea what was going on. He kneeled on my side of the bed and expressed his love for me. I cried like a baby!

wedding ring

What was your favorite detail about your look?

I loved the illusion detail of my Galina Signature wedding dress.

bride in sexy bohemian wedding dress

How did you feel when you knew that you #foundtheone?

I was beyond happy when I found this dress!

bride and groom walking hand in hand at sexy bohemian wedding

Was there a highlight or most memorable moment of the day?

The highlight for me was my dad walking me down the aisle in his African cloth. It reminded me of my granny who recently passed away in January. I kept her wedding photo nearby as I know she was there with us in spirit.

Did anything funny or unexpected happen?

Our 4-year-old son was in the limelight on the dancefloor! He showed off some moves we had no idea he knew. It was a real treat!

sexy bohemian wedding bridal party

Is there something you wish you had known before the big day/while you were planning the wedding?

I wish I would have known to have an additional crew on hand for small things that were missed during the wedding.

What flavor was your wedding cake?

We decided on a 3 layer cake. The top layer was red velvet (my favorite) and the bottom two layers were vanilla.

What was your favorite DIY or personal touch?

I loved the table settings along with the ceremony backdrop. We made both ourselves for a great price.

sexy bohemian wedding table centerpiece

What traditions did you include on your special day?

We decided on two traditions to “seal the deal,” so to speak! We incorporated a unity candle in our ceremony to acknowledge both families uniting. This candle also symbolizes lost loved ones as we know that they were present in spirit. Another fun piece we went with was, jumping the broom. From what I understand, it dates back to African roots where couples would jump the broom after exchanging vows to seal the marriage. We plan to keep the broom as an heirloom and hope to pass it down to our children.

What did you do to stay stress free on your wedding day?

I was a little stressed but not as much as the night went on. You have to realize everything will not be perfect and it’s really about you and your partner.

What advice do you have for brides that are planning their weddings right now?

I would suggest getting inspiration from Pinterest. Make wedding planning as fun as you can, you will have these pictures/videos to look back on and smile at forever.

An Intimate Cottage Mini-Wedding in Athens, GA

Real weddings are so inspiring! To get you in the mood to plan, we asked real brides to spill the details on everything from getting engaged to finding their wedding dresses to the special touches and surprising moments that made their celebrations completely one-of-a-kind. Baylie and Brady were high-school sweethearts and tied the knot in an intimate cottage mini-wedding in their home state of Georgia. Read on for more of their cottage mini-wedding in Athens!

Briefly tell us how you and your fiancé met! How did you know that he was the one?

Brady and I met in middle school actually. I definitely had a crush on him, but we just remained friends. That changed our sophomore year in high school when we started hanging out more, and then the rest is history! He’s my high school sweetheart!

Tell us your proposal story!

Brady loves grand gestures, so he always said he wanted to propose when I least expected it. In August of 2019, we went to Daytona, Fl with my family like we do every year. Because getting engaged at the beach with my family seemed expected, that’s when I least expected it. I even made jokes the whole time about trolling social media with a “fake proposal” picture that had a funny caption indicating that it definitely wasn’t a proposal. This year in particular, we decided to climb a lighthouse there, something we’ve always said we wanted to do. As I was posing for the fake proposal photo, Brady whipped out an actual ring and said “how’s this for a fake proposal?”. I was so unexpected because it was too expected, which he later told me was his plan all along.

How did you decide on your wedding day look?

I have a wide range of tastes when it comes to style, so I never had one dress I envisioned wearing. All I knew is that I wanted something unique but still timeless, and something more boho and modern as opposed to traditional. David’s Bridal was the first and only place I looked at dresses!

Do you have any shopping advice for future brides?

Definitely have some dresses or styles in mind before going shopping, but don’t be so set on one in particular. Having a basis to start with helps you to narrow down what you love and eliminate what you found to not work. Having your heart set on one thing may lead to disappointment, and not having any clue may make your shopping experience stressful and leave you overwhelmed. It’s all about finding that balance with some sort of direction to start in.

What was your favorite detail about your look?

I absolutely LOVED the sleeves on my dress and the off-the-shoulder style that felt sexy and classy. Besides the dress, my favorite things were my shoes. Our wedding was outdoors in a terraced garden, so I needed to be sure that my shoes would work on the terrain. They were essentially tan, leather, heeled booties!

How did you feel when you knew that you #foundtheone?

The dress I found wasn’t one I ever saw online. The amazing stylist at my David’s Bridal store pulled it for me after our consultation because she thought it would suit my style. Before I even had it fully zipped up, I was in love. It felt so “me” and I couldn’t imagine wearing anything else on my wedding day. I was actually 4 weeks postpartum when I went dress shopping, so having that dress on made me feel so beautiful and confident in a time when I was vulnerable.

Tell us about your wedding day!

Both of us always wanted a very intimate ceremony that was more about the marriage itself than the wedding. We wanted a fun, non-traditional, celebration of our love that would reflect our relationship. So, we chose to have the day with 20 people in an outdoor garden at a small cottage in our hometown of Athens, Georgia. We were surrounded by so much love and celebrated with our favorite pizza and delicious desserts afterward while gathered around a fire. It was purely magical. So dreamy!

Was there a highlight or most memorable moment of the day?

Because our day was so simple and raw, I feel like we got to actually enjoy it and are able to remember it more than just the usual big blur of a wedding day that goes by so quickly. The part that really stands out was having our family and friends surrounding us in a semi-circle during our ceremony. Our officiant had us look around at the congregation a couple of times to see everyone there supporting us. It felt so intimate and we felt so much love.

Did anything funny or unexpected happen?

Oh yes – something funny and something stressful. We almost didn’t have flowers because our florist forgot to deliver them. Once the setup time we discussed passed and they still weren’t there, my sister called and they promptly came. She was a lifesaver and saved me from the stress of handling it. All was well and the flowers we set up JUST before guests started arriving. The funniest thing that happened was a surprise appearance of a bird flying around during the ceremony. I was in the middle of reading my vows to Brady when a bird flew past our officiant and right between us. I didn’t find out until afterward because I was so focused on Brady when it happened that I totally missed it. I’m actually bummed that we never caught it in a photo.

Did you have to make any changes to your wedding plans because of Covid?

The only thing we changed was the location. Originally, we were going to get married in Savannah, Georgia, but ultimately decided that it would be best not to have to travel, so we changed it to our hometown of Athens, Georgia. We always planned for it to be an intimate day and outdoors, so luckily everything else could remain as planned. We did always have in mind that we would have a casual “reception” at a later date so we could celebrate with everyone who wasn’t there, so we’re just planning to do that whenever we feel it is safe and responsible to do so.

What was your favorite DIY or personal touch?

My favorite was the boutonniere I had made for my husband. I had our florist include a bead that was given to my husband’s grandpa after his grandma passed in 2018. The bead was made out of dried and pressed rose petals from his grandma’s funeral, so it is so special. Brady was able to hold his Gram close and know she was with him on this big day.

What did you do to stay stress-free on your wedding day?

So, we actually took a more non-traditional route for the day, and Brady and I spent the entire morning together. We went to breakfast at Waffle House like we always did the mornings before our dances together in high school. We also got some cozy and intimate photos in our pajamas before getting in our wedding attire. Having him there with me just eased any stress I was feeling and really allowed us to focus on each other, which was what the whole day was supposed to be about!

What’s your best wedding planning advice? And what advice do you have for brides that are planning their weddings right now?

I would say do what feels right. If you want to take your time to plan an elaborate wedding that you’ve always wanted, then absolutely do it. Or if you want to go a more budget-friendly route and use the money you’d spend on a wedding to go towards a home or a honeymoon, then do it. There are so many different directions that you can take for a wedding, and none are better or worse than another. It’s so easy to get caught up in what social media and Pinterest say a wedding should be like, but just do what makes you happy and is within your means.

Also, figure out what things and traditions are important to you to incorporate. Don’t let people pressure you or make you feel bad about your choices of anything. Be as traditional or non-traditional as YOU like. The most important part of the wedding is the union it is creating and everything else is just minor details. No matter the size, weddings and wedding planning are stressful. Just know that something may not go as planned, and that is OKAY. Just remember what the day is about and let that be all that matters to you.

PS. You may think you won’t have to tell guests to keep their phones away during the ceremony… but you absolutely do. I made the mistake of assuming people knew!

Any other wedding moments you want to share?

Our story is a little unique in the fact that we found out we were pregnant just two weeks after getting engaged. It was so special that we got to have our daughter, who was six months old at the time, be a part of our day. Brady carried her down the aisle and gave her to my dad as my dad gave me to Brady. We got to celebrate our union as a couple and as a family that day!

To get you in the mood to plan, we asked real brides to spill the details on everything from getting engaged to finding their wedding dresses to the special touches and surprising moments that made their celebrations completely one-of-a-kind. Read on for Breanna and Dalton’s outdoor boho mini wedding in Kentucky.

Tell us how you and your fiancé met! How did you know that he was the one?

Dalton and I met in high school. We started out as good friends and then it became more than that. He was my high school sweetheart! I fell in love with his personality and his passion to make a difference. And I knew that Dalton was the one the moment that he grabbed my hand to pray with me during a rough time. This was a very special moment for me. It made me realize how supportive and caring he is. He has such a loving heart.

Tell us your proposal story!

For one of my Christmas presents, Dalton wanted to take me to a Christmas tree farm to take professional pictures. I’ve always wanted to take pictures like this, so it was very sweet of him to make it happen. On the ride to the tree farm, Dalton talked my ear off as usual, which I love. When he’s passionate about something, he enjoys talking about it. However, once we got to our destination, he soon became very quiet. I noticed that his fists were tightened up as if he was getting really nervous. We met with our photographers and we started taking pictures. The photographers had me go in front of Dalton so they could snap a few pictures with just me in focus and Dalton in the background. They told me to turn around, and I see Dalton smiling from ear to ear and on one knee. He was so nervous that he forgot what to say but it was such a precious moment for me. I said, “yes” obviously!

How did you decide on your wedding dress?

I only wanted a few people to go dress shopping with me because I felt like the more people the more opinions and I didn’t want that because it would overwhelm me. I had my mom, sister, sister-in-law, grandma, and aunt join me on this special day and had each of them pick a dress that they could see me wearing. When I put the last dress on, I knew that it was the one. I fell in love with it! It was very simple and elegant. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. This dress was for me! My stylist put the veil on me as a final piece, she asked if this was my dress and I teared up. I had a moment and I said, “YES” to the dress!

Do you have any dress-shopping advice for future brides?

Just have an open mind coming in and enjoy this special time with your loved ones!

Did you have a first look? What came to mind when you saw your future spouse for the first time?

We had our first look and I couldn’t keep my eyes off my future husband. He was and is absolutely handsome. It made me excited to know that we were about to become one and grow together as a couple.

Tell us about your wedding day!

We had the most beautiful intimate wedding. We got married in a backyard of an Airbnb in Liberty, KY, and then drove 4 hours away to Max Patch, NC for our couple portraits. It was a fun-filled day with close family and friends and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Confetti falling on bride and groom after the wedding ceremony

Was there a highlight or most memorable moment of the day?

Watching my husband get emotional as I walked down the aisle was one of my favorite parts of the day.

Is there something you wish you had known before the big day?

Don’t be so stressed. Enjoy every moment. Try to be prepared as much as you can and don’t hesitate to ask your friends and family for help.

What was your favorite DIY or personal touch?

My mom and I made my bouquet and my bridesmaids bouquets. It was fun making them as well as spending some quality time with my mom.

What did you do to stay stress-free on your wedding day?

I prayed and tried not to get so worked up. There’s so many emotions but I tried staying calm while spending time with my friends and family. Just go with the flow! Whatever happens, happens. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the moment because it will all go by so fast.

What’s your best wedding planning advice? And what advice do you have for brides that are planning their weddings right now?

Do what you want to do and make sure your wedding is you. It’s your day, no one else’s. If you dream of having hundreds of people there or just having 10 on a mountain, do it. This only happens once, and you should make sure it’s one of the most memorable days of your life.

The ultimate guide to bring your boho wedding dreams to life

Boho brides, embrace a free-spirited and eclectic style for your wedding day! We’re dreaming of intricate lace, earthy tones, and whimsical florals for the perfect boho wedding! From the dress to the decor, we’re dishing on all the boho wedding ideas to inspire your planning! Keep reading for some indie inspiration for your upcoming ‘I Do’s”!

The Dress

Style WG3827, MS251209, MS251173

Let’s talk about the dress! Boho wedding dresses are defined by easy-going silhouettes and lace details. Lightweight fabrics, like tulle, chiffon, or soft lace, are a breezy choice for the care-free bride. To fully capture that bohemian bride vibe, look for open backs, graphic lace, long or bell sleeves, or a warm hue (think ivory, champagne or even blush). Finish off your look with effortless waves and flower crown or a classic boho brimmed hat.

The Color Palette

Shop Boho Inspired Color Swatches

We’re dreaming of dusty hues and earth tones for the ultimate boho bridal party! Colors such as Desert Coral, Sedona and Cinnamon offer a warm hue, reflective of shades seen in the desert. The boho bridesmaid can also don floral inspired hues such as Sunflower and Marigold for a fresh-picked feel. Finally, take note from the outdoors and embrace shades of green! A shade like Dusty Sage offers a relaxing, earthy vibe to complement your boho wedding.

The Flowers

Wild and eclectic bouquets capture that natural bohemian vibe. Look for muted florals to match your maids and complement with fern and eucalyptus touches! Some of our favorite flowers to include in a boho wedding bouquet include: protea blooms, chrysanthemums, carnations, and peonies. For a free-spirited bouquet that will make a statement, opt for an oversized one!

The Decor

Embrace natural woods and organic textures for your boho wedding decor! To achieve that bohemian look, try mixing lace and embroidered fabrics to create interest into the space. For more dimension, pampas grass is great accent to a boho venue. The neutral colorway and organic look of this plant will complement any space! As a finishing touch, add some twinkly lights to pull everything together!

An Intimate Bohemian Elopement at Joshua Tree

Real weddings are so inspiring! To get you in the mood to plan, we asked real brides to spill the details on everything from getting engaged to finding their wedding dresses to the special touches and surprising moments that made their celebrations completely one-of-a-kind. Read on for Kayla and Tyler’s intimate bohemian elopement at Joshua Tree.

How did he propose?

I came home after work and noticed my door was closed, which was odd because my door was NEVER closed! So I go in and I see Tyler laying across the bed with a devious smile on his face! I go in super confused and I ask “What are you doing??” he gets up and he says “come here!” So I put my purse down on the dresser and sat down next to him – at this point he was just being a goof and I’m super confused with what was going on. He begins to say ” Kayla I love you so much and you mean the world to me…” As soon as I thought I knew what he was doing I was like “No, no, no” and then he got down on one knee and asked, “Kayla, would like to spend the rest of your life with me?” Of course, I said yes!!

How did you decide on your wedding dress? Any dress-shopping advice for future brides?

I bought one dress in 2018, at first I was in love with it but then as plans changed and locations changed, I decided to go a different way! I bought my wedding dress on sale (score!) but when I received it, it was too big! So, I called a local David’s Bridal to see if I can come in for alterations or possibly a size smaller. Due to our new normal of being in quarantine, none of the shops were operating normally! Luckily she did mention one location in San Diego that was opening up on a Friday! So I called, checked to see if there was a size smaller for the dress and boom! My dress, in the size I needed, only one left, but in the nude shade instead of white that I originally purchased. When I tried it on, it fit like a glove, I looked at it and I was speechless! I couldn’t even explain the excitement and relief I felt when finding my perfect dress!!

My advice for future brides would be to not buy from an unreliable website…no matter the price! You will be disappointed! Also, try on different types of dresses because you never know which one you will feel your best in! Lastly…when they say “ when you know you know” that’s not just towards your fiance, it’s towards your wedding dress too! So, follow your gut and make sure YOU feel beautiful in it!

Tell us about your wedding day! We know it wasn’t exactly what you had originally planned!

My wedding day was so perfect! It was an intimate ceremony followed by pictures! We got married at sunset in Joshua Tree. The land was so beautiful with all the rocks, cacti, and landscape in the distance. It’s breathtaking!

Did anything funny or unexpected happen?

Everything! That’s just the way life goes I’ve noticed! I was running late, communication was all over the place, and I wasn’t expecting bugs at our locations but they couldn’t resist! Also, I foolishly wore heels, they were chunky heels but I’m still recovering from the blisters! With all those obstacles I still wouldn’t take back that day!

What was your first dance song?

We technically didn’t have an official first dance, but our wedding day song is “Love you” by Duce Williams.

What was your favorite DIY or personal touch?

My bouquet had a beautiful charm on it that I hold so close to my heart! It was a charm that said “Missing you as I walk down the aisle” with a picture of my oldest brother, David, that passed away last year. That charm completed the day because I know that if he were here today he would have been there smiling and so happy for us! He was there is spirit so that’s all that matters.

What did you do to stay stress-free on your wedding day?

I kept saying that the day is here and no matter what happens, I get to marry my sweet, funny, and handsome baby daddy! Who cares what happens because as long as I have him and my son…life is good!

What’s your best wedding planning advice?

If you plan to have a wedding during this pandemic, my advice is to elope! In the end, it’s all about you and your spouse! Do something that you think will be fun and memorable! Don’t spend your whole life savings on this day because there are much bigger and better plans in your future. Also, make a list/budget and stick to it, all the fluff doesn’t matter! We had an intimate bohemian elopement at Joshua Tree- we just had the boho dress, tux, bouquet, boutonnière, rings, photographer/videographer, and someone to make it official!! And of course, embrace your new forever!

A Modern Boho Wedding in Tysons Corner

Real weddings are so inspiring! To get you in the mood to plan—and party!—we asked real brides to spill the details on everything from getting engaged to finding their wedding dresses to the special touches and surprising moments that made their celebrations completely one-of-a-kind. Read on for Glory and Ron’s modern boho wedding in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

How did you two get engaged?

Last Christmas morning, we were relaxing around the Christmas tree after having breakfast and opening gifts, and before I knew what was happening, I saw Ron holding a box, down on one knee, surrounded by my daughter and our dogs and cat asking me to marry him. My heart almost jumped out of my chest!

Tell us about your dress!

Oh, my dress! My beautiful, amazing, stunner of a dress! If I could wear it every day, I honestly would. I knew I wanted something with lace, a V-neck, and a high waist, and I found all of that in my Oleg Cassini dress. I also loved the cap sleeves and button details. My stylist was so patient as I tried on quite a few dresses only to come back to the same one time after time.

Like mother, like daughter:

My daughter and I spent the night before in a gorgeous bridal suite. The first thing she did when she woke up was say softly, “We’re getting married today, Mommy.”

When Ron saw her:

He said I looked phenomenal. Made me blush!

How did you pull off such a beautiful day?

I’m an event stylist and designer, so I knew what I wanted. My style was influenced by my love for vintage, which I mixed with greenery, gold, and clean, simple design details. I didn’t want to overdo it with the bohemian chic vibes, but I did incorporate it into my dress and veil. I wanted my guests to walk into the room and feel like it was totally “Glory.”

What was the most memorable moment for you?

I am of Nigerian descent, and Ron had asked my older brother, who walked me down the aisle, how to say “I love you” in my native language. He included that in his vows to me and it made me so emotional. I still have the piece of paper that he wrote his vows on. It was so special.

Romantic park wedding in Missouri

Real weddings are so inspiring! Bride and groom holding hands while walking through a park

So how did you two meet?

Justin and I met in 2008 but didn’t spend much time together until the night before he moved away to Florida for school. We were at the same gathering and quickly hit it off. Over the course of the next month, while Justin was in Florida, we spoke daily on the phone, sometimes two, three, four hours at a time. After a month away, our newfound interest in one another convinced Justin to move back. He proposed that I fly to Florida and drive with him so he wouldn’t have to make the haul alone. Justin and I knew we were meant for one another when we arrived home after a 22-hour drive—neither of us had run for the hills or kicked the other out somewhere in Georgia.

Dress reaction:

As soon as he took my hands at the altar he whispered to me, “I love your dress. You look so beautiful.” It was worth the wait to see his reaction. He couldn’t stop smiling, and because of it, I was on top of the world.

Tell us about your wedding day!

Sunday has always been “our” day, so it was only fitting for us to pick a Sunday morning in one of our favorite parks in St. Louis, Tower Grove Park. We found the perfect storybook tree and from that created a vision. After all, the day is about the couple and not the bells and whistles, and we wanted to ensure it reflected us and our love for one another.

Favorite DIY detail:

Justin and I hand-stamped coin bags and filled them with birdseed for guests to throw during our recessional. Since the wedding took place in November, we thought the birds would appreciate the gesture!
